      Barker Howe dies at age of 87: Shell

      Funeral services for Barker M. Howe, 87 years old were held Thursday at the Community church in Shell, with the Rev. Stanley Evans, Presbyterian missionary pastor of Basin officiating.

      Barker M. Howe was born Feb 22, 1850 at Poultney, Vermont and passed away at his home in shell at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 18 days.

      His parents moved to Minnesota when he was 5 years old (oh), making their home there for many years. His mother Julian Barker Howe died in 1870. He came to Laramie in 1879 with Willis Booth and Dayton Hendricks trailing a herd of cattle. He came to the Big Horn County to make his home in 1899. His father Albert C. Howe died in 1906.

      He married to Addie Judd in 1905 and to this union were b born three sons and one daughter, Milo Ray, Albert Barker, Irving Clyde, and Ruth may.

      He leaves to mourn his death his wife Addie M. Howe, three brothers, Mahlon Howe of Albert Lee, MN, Milo Howe of Shell (who?) and Eddie Howe a half brother, of Shell; two sisters, Lucretia Wright, Minneapolis, Minn. and Louisa Knowles, Tacoma Wash. One son by a former marriage Ed A Howe, Graybull; two sons, Milo and Irving Howe, Shell; one daughter Mrs Orville Leavitt, and 10 grand children (omitted)

      He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Myron, Merritt, Edmond, Albert, Alice and Kate and one son, Albert.

      The many friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to the mourning family.

      It was on Mr Howe's Ranch that the bones of 12 brontosaurs were discovered, and dug up by Barnum Brown. Mr Howe having first found them.
