7974 Most Michauds in North America are descended from a single individual, Pierre Micheau (or Michel) dit Michaud, an immigrant from the Poitou -- now called Vendée -- region of western France. The name Michaud itself actually means 'little Michael', and as such, has been adopted by other French "Michael" families around the world at various times.

Pierre came to New France/Canada in 1656 as an indentured worker to Jacques Pepin, a ship's factor and merchant. He traveled aboard the ship La Fortune, out of La Rochelle, France. He worked off his 3-year contract to Pepin as a laborer, then became a land owner and farmer on several sites along the St. Lawrence river in Quebec. His final bequest to his family was a plot of land facing the St. Lawrence in Kamouraska, Quebec. A granite monument was erected there in June 1990 by his ancestors, members of The Michaud Association, in his memory.

7995 Nancy Rebecca Phillips,
Nancy Rebecca Daily (sic), daughter of John Wesley (sic) and Mary Dailey, was born in Marrow (sic) county, Ohio, October 21, 1838, and died at the home of her son Howard Phillips in Worth, Mo. July 9, 1926, aged 87 years, 8 months, and 18 days. She was the youngest of ten children, two brothers and seven sisters, all of whom preceded her to the great beyond. In 1855 she moved, with her parents, to Knox Co. Ill, where she was united in marriage to Francis Marion Crawford in 1862. To this union four childrenn were born, as follows: Harley, of Ontario, Cal.; Elmer , of Gravity, Ia.; Willard. of Elk City, Okla; and Mrs. Geneva Burrell, of Bedford, Ia.
After the death of her companion at Galesburg, Ill in 1873, she moved with her little family to Missouri, where on April 28, 1877, she was married to Isaac Phillips. To this union two sons and two daughters were born: Edward Arthur who preceded her in death in March, 1914, Howard Isaac and Mrs. Della E. Long, both of Worth, and Mrs. Cora Agnes Giesken, of Parnell, Mo.
Besides those mentioned above, she leaves to mourn her passing twenty grandchildren, ten great, grandchildren and seven step children, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Grandmother Phillips, as she was lovingly called by her many relatives and friends, was converted at the age of fifteen years and united with the Methodist church and remained in that faith until the end.
Grandma always had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone and was truly a model of Christian fortitude and patience in her many trials and afflitions. For the past several years she had made her home with her son Howard, and wife in Worth, and for some time has been quite helpless. On July 2nd she was stricken with paralysis. All that kind and loving hands could do was in vain, and one week later she passed to her reward.
O! Dear mother, how we miss you
Now that you have gone away;
But in heaven we hope to meet you,
On a fairer, brighter day.

From the Nova Scotia GenWeg:

"From its establishment by the French in 1713 until the withdrawal of the last British troops in 1768, Louisbourg played an important role in the Anglo-French struggle for hegemony in North America. For three decades after its founding Louisbourg enjoyed peace and prosperity, though the threat of war always hung over the fortified town. In 1745 an army of New Englanders, supported by a British naval squadron, captured Louisbourg after a 46-day siege. The town was returned to the French by treaty, and then besieged again in 1758. The assault lasted seven weeks, pitting a combined British army and naval force of 27,000 against 7,000 French defenders (soldiers and sailors). In the end the French stronghold and naval base fell again, opening the way for the British conquest of the rest of New France."
CHAPIN, Nathaniel (I2187)
