Census: In 1910 Mary is living in Ladysmith, WI with her 3 children, she gives her marital status as widowed. Divorced women very often gave their status as widowed rather than divorced. Mary's sons, aged 18 and 19 are working in the paper mill. For additional income Mary has taken in as boarders a widowed man and his 6 year old son. Census: The 1920 census shows Charles and Mary living in Minneapolis along with Mary's daughter. Elizabeth is working as an office helper. Census: The 1930 census shows Charles and Mary living in a household with her daughter, as in 1920 but Elizabeth is now married with 3 children. Charles works at a state university as a truck helper.

Census: The 1851 census of Canada shows Mary, age 27, born in Ireland. Also enumerated are 5 children ages 1 - 9. The last child appears to have a different last name. Census: The 1861 census shows Margaret (Casey) Phelan living with Thomas Murphy. The census take wrote on the form, "This man and woman are not married." Census: By 1881 it appears as if Margaret and Thomas have married, or at least she shares his last name. Note:picture of census too light.

Their first child is born in Pennsylvania, the next in New York, the next two in Ohio and finally the youngest (John Laughlin) in Wisconsin. The 1860 census does not list relationships or the birthplace of parents so we don't know who John "belongs" to but Daniel and Nancy are clearly not his parents.
