Notes:
Note: From The Abell Family in America by Horace and Lewis Abell: "Some records mentioned a James Abell, marrying Sarah Bowen, Dec 27, 1686 but this appears to be incorrect. The original vital records of Rehoboth state that Sarah Bowen married Preserved Abell, Dec. 27 1686. The vital and probate records and register of deeds do not list any individual by the name of James Abell. No record has been found that shows the name of this child. It is quite probable that a connection with the Maryland-Virginia-Kentucky families may be established through this child."
George + Frances COTTON. Frances (daughter of Richard COTTON and Mary MAINWARING) was born in 1573. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
Note: There is apparently some confusion regarding the mother of Frances Cotton. Below is a note from an Abell family genealogist. " The solution to the problem was presented by Thompson in his "The Genealogist" article. It is basically an argument by elimintation. I am a little fuzzy on the details (its been years), but if I recall correctly, the children of the firstwife were named in the will of her father, and the children of the third wife were named in her own will. Frances is named in neither of these, and thus is presumed to be daughter of the second wife, Mary Mainwaring. It is solid work."
Richard + Mary MAINWARING. Mary was born about 1541 in Ightfield, Shropshire, ENGLAND; died before 2 Jun 1578. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
