Notes:
Census:
1857 State census at Cannon Falls, Goodhue, MN shows George Brookman, 26, b. ENGLAND, laborer; Jane, 25, b. ENGLAND; Wm. D., 3, b. PA; Chas E., 1/12, b. MN. Also enumerated with this family is Edward Brookman, 21, b. ENGLAND, laborer and Hannah B. Morton, 22, b. NJ.
Census:
1860 census at Warsaw, Goodhue, MN shows George Brockman, 27, farmer, b. ENGLAND; Frances J., 27, b. ENG; children: William D., 5, b. PA; Charles E., 2, b. MN; Frances, 1, b. MN. Enumerated next to George is a Ew Brockman, 22, b.ENGLAND, farmer.
Land:
George and his brother Edward each acquire land that is registered on April 1, 1862. Another researcher notes that by 1877 a plat map shows the land owned by someone else.
Census:
1865 State census at Warsaw Township, Goodhue, MN shows George Brokman (indexed as George Berkman); Lelista, William, Charles and Fremont Frits. This census gives only gender, no age or birthplace. By 1865 I would expect to find Frances and/or Eliza with the family and given that George is supposedly born this month, a wife. Therefore the person listed as Lelista must be a wife, although it does not fit either of the first names other researchers have provided. Frances appeared in the 1860 census and then never again so perhaps she has died. There is an Eliza Brockman enumerated with another family (D. McNeil) in Lillian, Goodhue, MN.
Census:
1870 census at Rutland, Martin, MN shows George Brockman (indexed as Brockner), X8 (illegible), farmer, b. ENGLAND; William, 15, b. PA, farmer; Charles, 12, b. MN, farmer; George, 5, b. MN; William, 36, b . ENG., farm laborer.
Note:
George Brockman is listed in the
Voter Registration rolls of San Bernardino County, California. His age is given as 58; birthplace, England; occupation, farmer; place of residence as South Riverside, and that he became a naturalized citizen in 1867 at Martin Co., MN.
Note:
California voter registration on Oct. 5, 1892 lists George Brockman, farmer, b. England; occupation farmer; residence South Riverside; naturalized citizen in March of 1856 at Goodhue County, MN. The registration notes he is 61 years of age; height 5'9" with a dark complexion, gray eyes and gray hair.
