On Sept. 12, 1918 John Hamernick registered for the WWI draft. He gives his birthdate as March 4, 1886 and his place of residence as Little Falls, Morrison Co., MN. His occupations is piling lumber for Pine Tree mfg co., his nearest relative is Polly Hamernick at the same address. The registrar notes he is of medium height and build and has blue eyes and dark hair. He notes that "he don't hear well."

Frank Hamernick 80, Dies At Culdrum:

Frank Hamernick, 80 of Culdrum died at his home in Culdrum township this morning at 11 o'clock. Death was caused by the infirmities of age. He was born in Poland and came to this country about 50 (or 59, illegible) years ago settling on a farm in Culdrum.
Surviving are the widow and 10 children, Mrs. John Kowelski, Winona; Mrs. Joseph Copa, Pike Creek; Joseph Hamernick, Flensburg; John Hamernick, Little Falls; Mrs. Joseph Brass, Mrs. Peter Zuka and Mrs. William Crisler, Minneapolis; Mrs. August Mrozik and Frank Hamernick, Flensburg, and Max Hamernick of Ft. Ripley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at the Sacred Heart church in Flensburg.

According to the 1900 census Frank and Helen had been married 31 years, she had borne 12 children, 8 of whom were living. This would make Helen 13 at the time of her marriage and by my count there were 11 children by this time.

According to the 1910 census Frank and Helen had been married 32 years, however it does say Frank has been married twice. This actually makes more sense as Helen would have been about 22. In this census she has borne 9 children / 9 living. This makes some sense too as there is a gap in children from about 1873 to about 1879 when Stella is born. If Stella is Helen's first born the numbers 9/9 work out.
