    Alternate Name:
I have 5 paintings done by Mary, 4 oils and 1 appears to be chalk or pencil. One hung in our family home for most of my life and I acquired the others after her death.

Researchers on ancestry.com consistently give the parents of Edna Pearl King as James Robert King and Leona Welden but the records are full of inconsistencies. One researcher has Leona married 3 times, to Robert King, Hezekiah McGinnis and then Charles Yoemans. This is impossible as the King and McGinnis marriages are simultaneous. Further Hezekiah and Leona McGinnis are alive and well in Kentucky during the 1920 census. Hezekiah and Leona are listed as having been married 7 years in the 1900 census (this while the King marriage is still producing children.) Leona is enumerated in the 1910 census in Indianapolis, IN along with her daughters Mary and Bernice King. She is listed as Divorced (and Leona and Hezekia McGinnis are still in Kentucky at this time). I believe these were all put together using ancestry's dancing leaves that urge one to connect records and people with no real research or thought.

In fact Leona was married 4 times but never to Hezekiah McGinnis.

    Name:
Edna was generally known as Mary Creamer, this is how she signed her paintings. She gave lessons and conducted showings as Mary Creamer.

I have 5 paintings done by Mary, 4 oils and 1 appears to be chalk or pencil. One hung in our family home for most of my life and I acquired the others after her death.

    Residence:
Nov 19, 1920: Mrs. Wm. Scott arrived on Thursday accompanied by her son, Robert King, of Minnesota, who met his mother in Greeley, Colo., from where they came in a car.....

    Note:
After the arrival of William with his new bride, in 1919, the couple appears in the local paper on a regular basis.
For example: Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Scott entertained guests....; Mrs. Scott entertained ladies and served waffles; Dr. and Mrs. Scott return from Washington, etc. etc.
Beginning in 1922 the couple is never mentioned again, as a couple. In March of 1922 Leona runs advertisements for lodgers at her home on Silver Avenue.
In July of 1922 Leona takes over management of the American Cafe at 106 Silver Avenue, waffles being a specialty. Ads for the restaurant list Mrs. L. L. Scott as the proprietor. This is a clue as to the state of her marriage to William as a woman is generally not called or referred to by her "Christian" name unless unmarried or a widow.
In September of 1922 it is reported that the Cafe reopened under new management and Leona is never mentioned in the papers again.

    Note:
Mrs. Scott Was Hostess At Valentine Party

Scott entertained a coterie of neighors and friends very appropriately in the nature of a Valentine party on Tuesday afternoon at her residence, 609 South Silver Ave. The home was artistically decorated with hearts and crepe paper in honor of St. Valentine. During the business hour two Larkin clubs were formed which other members will entertain during the coming year. Several kodak pictures were taken, after which a scrumptious luncheon consistin (sic) of pimento cheese sandwiches, pickles, assorted cake, snowball dessert and coffee was served.
