Note |
- Scrapbook at the Elk County Historical Society in Ridgway: (reported by Paula Pompeii of Falls Creek, PA, 6/16/2000: The first recorded wedding [at Holy Cross Church, Rasselas] was on October 13, 1856, being a double wedding of the brothers John and Peter Weidert; John married Helena Kleisath, daughter of Francis and Theresia Kleisath; Peter married Margaret, the daughter of George Pistner. The grooms were the sons of Bernard and Mary Budevin Weidert. [Simmons-Markert family.paf] It is not known by whom the first altar was built [at Holy Cross Church,Rasselas], but there seems to be a strong supposition that Father Wendelin Myer, O.S.B. had John Pistner build the altar and tabernacle. We do not know the relationship of George Pistner and John Pistner, perhaps they were brothers. According to Paula Pompeii of Falls Creek, PA: A descendent of Joseph and Magdalena Pistner told me that George Pistner is the father of John and Joseph Pistner who arrived with them at the Port of Baltimore in 1844. Linda Bauman posted a message to Ancestry.com indicating that John Pistner was from Schölkrippen, Bavaria. The June 1870 Census for Jones Township, Elk, PA, p. 15, showed John Pistner, 53, farmer, real estate $2,000, other property $800, POB Bavaria, Eliza, 51, POB Bavaria, Techla, 19, POB PA, Fred [Ferd], 17,Margaret, 12, Mary, 7, all born PA. The 6 Aug 1850 Census for Jones Township, Elk, PA showed John Pistner,28, farmer, real estate $62, b. Germany, Eliza, 27, b. Germany, Joseph,5, b. PA, and Tekla, 2, b. PA. John's age and Elizabeth's age are considered unreliable on this document.
