In Anno 1653 he transported into the Province a 'Maid servant, named Ann. At a court held at Patuxent 5 Dec 1654, Francis Billingsley was made Constable for the Clifts and was ordered to be present at the next Court to take charge of the office of Constable. (Ct.REc. also MD Arch. Vol 10, 410.) In 1656 he transported his brothers James and Thomas, in 1657 another maid servant also named Ann. In Assembly proceedings 1657 in a list of several charges to be satisfied by way of levie out of the County of Patuxent is,'for Fran. Billingsley for one wolfe, 100 pounds of tobacco. In 1657 he transported Sarah Billingsley, widow of his brother William. All these transportations were from Virginia.During the year 1658 he had a resurvey made upon 'Selby Clifts' in his name. In March 1659 he refused to take the oath as Constable (a yearly appointment) and was fined 591 pounds oftobacco. His refusal appears to be based upon the fact that he had removed to Richmond Co., VA with his sister-in-law where he operated a farm and sloop owned by her. While still living in Virginia he applied for additional land in Maryland and on 4 May 1663 there was surveyed for him 'CorneHill' for 350 acres and 'Deer Quarter' for 250 acres, both tracts patented to him 11 Sep 1663. On or about February 1663-64 he returned to Calvert County,Maryland, his sister-in-law having remarried. On 2 Mar 1663-4 there was surveyed for Francis Billingsley and Christopher Beard 350 acres of land near the 'Cliffs' in the woods, patented to Francis Billingsley 26 May 1664. In early 1668 he sold 30 acres of this tract to John Mears. According to the will of said Mears 1675 said Mears appears to own the whole 350 acres of this tract with no record to show how aquired. On 3 June 1668 there was surveyed for and patented to Francis Billingsley 100 acres of land adjoining 'Deer Quarter' this was called 'Addition. In the spring term of Court 1668 is the case of Francis Billingsley vs George Atkins, etc. (While he is known to have been a Quaker this shows he was not as strict in the faith as is common, as they do not, as a rule, have recourse to law, but hold to their Meetings to mete out justice.) In Nov. 1683 Francis Billingsley was appointed one of the Commissioners of Calvert County for the purpose of purchasing town lands, ports, and survey of the town and ports, and to stake lots, etc. This appears to be the last record of him and he died intestate in the year 1684 as his sons appear to be in possission of lands laid out to him. No record of any administration of his estate has so far been discovered. That his sons succeeded to his land is shown in their records. Immigratn: Francis Billingsley came to the United States with his brothers John and James. Note: Brought wife and son, John to Maryland, from Virginia. DNA: MKM Obituary: Thomas Cole was born in Gravity, Taylor county, Iowa, on Oct. 9, 1875, where he spent his early life and engaged in farming. He was married there in 1899. The family came to Montana in 1912 and took up a homestead and resided there until 1939, when they left for San Diego, California. His wife preceded him in death. About eight years ago he went to Seattle. He was united in marriage there and in 1949 and his wife survives. Surviving are two daughters, Myrl Watson and Evelyn Kaldor; three brothers and three sisters, and other relatives. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery. Note: This obituary is pretty confusing about marriages. Thomas did marry in 1899 in Iowa and he and Hattie did come to Montana. Hattie died in 1920 so when the obituary says "they" left for San Diego in 1939 it is unclear who "they" are. Thomas is enumerated in the 1940 census living with his daughter Merl, his marital status is married but no wife is listed. The obituary continues saying he went to Seattle and was married there and in 1949. As near as I can figure, it appears he was married four times. The only other marriage I find besides Hattie is to a Cora Wilson Halfacre in Montana in 1936. Census: 1900 census at Washington Township, Taylor, IA lists: || Thomas Cole, born Oct 1875, age 24, born Iowa, parents born OH/Canada, married 1 year; Hattie, born Oct 1879, age 20, born Iowa, parents born unknown/unknown, children born and living, 0. Note: John and Daisy were married in Bedford, Iowa in 1908, their daughter Phyllis was born in 1909. They are present together in the 1910 census. John is found in the 1920 census living in Montana with his second wife Katie Maud Ryker and their son Homer who was born in February of 1917. Daisy is found in the 1925 state census living with her sister Lois. With her are her daughter's Phyllis and June. June was born in June of 1918. In this census and all subsequent census she gives her marital status as widow. John's second wife Katie Ryker Cole marries for a second time in Iowa. In 1923, at the age of 45 she marries a 69 year old man. Thus it would appear that John and Daisy were divorced early in their marriage, Daisy never remarries but has a child in 1918. John remarries Katie, she had a child in 1917. John and Katie appear to divorce by 1923 when Katie marries a second time. DNA: MKM Census: 1910 census at Grant Township, Taylor, IA shows: John C.
