Note: Seeking info on fate of DICKERSON siblings who were orphaned in Bloomington, Muscatine in 1840. Nine boys and one girl ranging from 11 to 24 in age. Specifically seeking what became of Xenophon the youngest who was born in 1828 in Ohio and brother Whitten. I am a direct descendant of brother Jesse who lived in Muscatine and Louisa counties until his death in 1871. Family arrived at Bloomington in 1836 with mother Sally Dailey who passed in 1839-40. All children born in Washington County, Ohio. They lived in Indiana prior to arrival in Iowa. Sister, Nancy walked the Oregon Trail in 1844-5. Brothers Luther, Frederick, Vachel and Thomas went south to Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma & Texas. Brother Silas believed to have gone to Illinois and later Texas. // Bill Dickerson // alpca2913@aol.com // Noted in the Muscatine list one James Welch. I believe he is the husband of my great aunt Nancy Dickerson. They were married in Muscatine in 1840. The Dickersons settled in Muscatine (then Bloomington) in 1836 and spread out from there. My great grandfather Jesse moved on to Louisa County. James and Nancy went to Missouri in 1844 and walked the Trail to Oregon. I would be grateful for any reference to James Welch or anyone with the surname Dickerson. Nancy had nine brothers. Her mother Sally died in 1839 and she cared for them as mother until moving on to Oregon. The father Joseph Dickerson had died enroute to Iowa. All were native to Ohio. James Welch was native to Kentucky. Thank you. Bill Dickerson, Milford, NH Buried: Find A Grave e-Memorial

These may be the sons of Mary's sister Jane who was married to Joseph Booker. Died: Two death dates have been reported for John W. Dailey, 1856 and 1873. I tend to think that the 1873 is correct as his wife Mary who died in 1865 is buried in Rio. Had John died in 1856 he probably would have been buried either there or in Ohio. As he is supposedly buried in Iowa I think the later date is more correct. See letters from Austin Dailey to Mabel Crawford. DNA: MKM Obituary: Nancy Rebecca Phillips, Nancy Rebecca Daily (sic), daughter of John Wesley (sic) and Mary Dailey, was born in Marrow (sic) county, Ohio, October 21, 1838, and died at the home of her son Howard Phillips in Worth, Mo. July 9, 1926, aged 87 years, 8 months, and 18 days. She was the youngest of ten children, two brothers and seven sisters, all of whom preceded her to the great beyond. In 1855 she moved, with her parents, to Knox Co. Ill, where she was united in marriage to Francis Marion Crawford in 1862. To this union four childrenn were born, as follows: Harley, of Ontario, Cal.; Elmer , of Gravity, Ia.; Willard. of Elk City, Okla; and Mrs. Geneva Burrell, of Bedford, Ia. After the death of her companion at Galesburg, Ill in 1873, she moved with her little family to Missouri, where on April 28, 1877, she was married to Isaac Phillips. To this union two sons and two daughters were born: Edward Arthur who preceded her in death in March, 1914, Howard Isaac and Mrs. Della E. Long, both of Worth, and Mrs. Cora Agnes Giesken, of Parnell, Mo. Besides those mentioned above, she leaves to mourn her passing twenty grandchildren, ten great, grandchildren and seven step children, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Grandmother Phillips, as she was lovingly called by her many relatives and friends, was converted at the age of fifteen years and united with the Methodist church and remained in that faith until the end. Grandma always had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone and was truly a model of Christian fortitude and patience in her many trials and afflitions. For the past several years she had made her home with her son Howard, and wife in Worth, and for some time has been quite helpless. On July 2nd she was stricken with paralysis. All that kind and loving hands could do was in vain, and one week later she passed to her reward. O! Dear mother, how we miss you Now that you have gone away; But in heaven we hope to meet you, On a fairer, brighter day. Funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church in Worth at two o'clock Saturday, July 10 by the pastor, A. R. Lamb. The quartette composed of Mrs. Bertha Canaday, Mrs Wilmer Wallace, Luther Pierce and George Wray, sang "There is no Disappointment in Heaven," "Lead Kindly Light," and "Abide With Me."
