6051 Abijah North came to Shoreham from Farmington, Conn., in 1774; went on to fifty acres of land given him by one of the proprietors; cleared a piece of land that summer; planted apple seeds for an orchard; built a log house and returned to Connecticut in the fall of that year. The war having broken out that year, he did not come on with his family as expected, but remained till after the peace, when he returned with his wife and six children to his former residence. He lived on that place for two years, and then went to Bridport, where he died May 3 1875.

6057 About 1 year prior to the baptism of Jérome (14 Sep 1798) church records list the burial of a Jérome, age 7 years. I do not find a baptismal record for this Jérome in 1791 but it is no uncommon for a child to be named for a recently deceased sibling. I do find a baptismal record for Joseph in 1791 and later a marriage for him. JÉROME DIT LAFLEUR, Joseph (I23143)

6059 Abraham Birckhead and William Holland, Sr., were chosen by the vestry as the first Church Wardens of St. James' Parrish. Mr. Holland was probably a kinsman of Colonel William Holland. He served not quite a year as a church warden.
Abraham Birckhead served as warden and as Clerk of the vestry, and on April 27, 1701, was elected to the vestry. This day must have been an important one for him. According to the church register "Mr. Abraham Birckhead, age 29 years born October 1675, baptized April 27, 1701," and the next entry on the register: "Elizabeth, daughter of Abraham Birckhead and Rebecca, his wife born April 4, 1701, baptized April 27, 1701.

SKETCH: Abraham Nichols, 7th child & 4th son of the 1st Cal eb & Ann (Ward) Nichols of Stratford, CT, was born Jan. 19, 1662 at Stratford. He m/1 Rachel Kellogg (b. Feb. 1663, d au. of Daniel Kellogg, Sr. of Norwalk, Fairfield Co., CT) D ec. 3, 1684 at Stratford. Sometime after 1708 he m/2 Mrs. S arah Rogers Buckingham, dau. of Eleazer Rogers of Milford, and widow of Samuel Buckingham (Nov. 1, 1668-Oct. 29, 170 8). Caleb was one of the 3 sons that accompanied their fath er, Sgt. Francis Nicholls, of Sedgeberrow, Worcestershire, England, to the colonies, prob. c. 1634-5. Francis & son s were documented in Stratford, Fairfield, Ct in 1639 (on e of 17 original planters) where he was in charge of the tr ainband.

Abraham did not remove to Woodbury with his father, but rat her remained in Stratford to look after his father's planta tion (originally some 3,000 acres) and proprietary interest s which he inherited in large part.
Around the year 1700, he built an immense, rambling home (l ater called Nicholls' Farm Manor,) a 'lordly domain,' wit h gambrel roof located on high ground with 'an unobstructe d view of the surrounding landscape, and at the south west, about 4 miles distant, the shimmering bosom of Long Islan d Sound' (Nicholls, p.24). He lived out his years there and it was handed down to the family. The original homestea d was last occupied by his great grandson, Hezekiah, Nichol s, Esq. His heirs built their homes on portions of his lan d and that area became known as Nichols Village. Early in the 20th c the old home site was still in the Nichols family but the large, original home had been torn down.
His second wife had at least one son, Samuel Buckingham, Jr., by her first husband as land records reflect that land was conveyed by Abraham & Sarah Nichols to that aforemention ed son of Milford, June 24, 1735.
Caleb, Abraham's brother, was executor of his father, Caleb 's estate.

6072 According to a Drake researcher, As of today 11-06-2010, we are unable to find the parents for Francis Marion Drake and his siblings. It has been told to family members that the children were separated after the death of their parents. The federal census of 1850 and 1860 shows this Margaret Drake (born 1803 in Kentucky) as having their charge. We do not know if she is actually their mother or a family member that took care of them. It has been said that there was a brother named Charles that was separated from the other siblings at this time. We continue to search for the answers. UNKNOWN, Margaret (I17578)

6075 According to Edward's obituary Edward and Mary were the parents of 16 children, they gave different numbers on various census reports, in 1900 they reported 8 born and 8 living; in 1910 they reported 12 born and 8 living (obviously 4 had not been born in this 10 years). I was able to uncover 14 of them by researching church baptismal and burial records and census records.
Edward and Joseph may be the same child although in no record is a middle name used. Joseph is baptised and Edward is buried and in census records.

6078 According to Hotten's List of the Early Emigrants, Edward Howe embarked on the "Truelove" for New England on the 19th of Sept. 1635. The names and ages as they appear on the list are "Edward How, husbandman, aged 60; Elizabeth, aged 50; Jeremie, aged 21; Sara, aged 12; Ephraim, aged 9; Isaac, aged 7; Wm., aged 6. HOWE, Lieutenant Lieutenant Edward (I18525)

6079 According to Interment.net cemetery transcriptions there are 4 stones located together in the Resting Green Cemetery in Sauk County, WI. They are Baily, d. 1872; Calvin W., d. 1864 in 32nd year; Asenath, d. 1853 at 25 and Alvin S., d. 1863, 21st year, Co. A., 6th Regiment, WVI. I cannot place this Alvin S. at this time. The name seems to fit his son listed as A. Stewart in the census but the date of birth is a little off. PEARSON, Bailey (I3308)

6083 According to the 1900 census Frank and Helen had been married 31 years, she had borne 12 children, 8 of whom were living. This would make Helen 13 at the time of her marriage and by my count there were 11 children by this time.

According to the 1910 census Frank and Helen had been married 32 years, however it does say Frank has been married twice. This actually makes more sense as Helen would have been about 22. In this census she has borne 9 children / 9 living. This makes some sense too as there is a gap in children from about 1873 to about 1879 when Stella is born. If Stella is Helen's first born the numbers 9/9 work out.
Family: Francis HAMERNICK / Helen GLOMER (F1357)

6084 According to the 1900 census George and Melinda did not have children. Family: George M. WELLS / Melinda JENNINGS (F3696)

6085 According to the 1910 and 1930 census records, immigrated in 1891. ELVESTAD, Anton (I9492)

6086 According to the Brown gedcom, "Their oldest daughter was married to a Johann Metz on February 11, 1846."
The Brown gedcom lists the husband of Maria/Mary Weidert as John March but then lists all the children with the last name Myers. Later census' list all of these children with the last name March.
Family: John MARCH / Mary WEIDERT (F2727)

6087 According to the dates of the births of Elizabeth, Sarah and Joseph in Timothy Hopkins, ' The Kellogg in the New World ', they all seem to be born before their parents were married. Was there possibly a wife prior to Sarah Plum who thes e children were born to.

6088 According to the historian Faillon, he was one of the brave men, who on May 6, 1651, risked their lives to help Catherine Mercier, wife of Jean Boudard. The latter was killed; the poor wife was kidnapped by the Iroquois and tortured at an unknown location. The same year, on Sainte-Anne’s Day, 200 Iroquois attacked Ville-Marie, particularly the hospital. Lambert Closse and his men continued this desperate struggle throughout the whole day. The attackers lost a lot of men. Denys Archambault, while lighting a cannon for the third time, “was killed by an explosion from this weapon which shattered and killed a lot of the enemy”. The hero Archambault was buried the same day. ARCHAMBAULT, Denys (I24968)

Miss Ruth Fillmore Kennon died at the home of her mother, Mrs. A. G. Kennon, in north Corning Sunday evening, May 29th, 1910. Miss Ruth was born in our city, July 19, 1892, and was aged 17 years, 10 months, and 10 days at the time of her death. Her entire life was spent in Corning. She attended the Corning schools and would have graduated with the class of this year, but on account of her illness had not attended school the past year. During her illness she took a great deal of interest in the work of her class and kept in touch with them throughout the year's work, even making close inquiry in regard to the closing examinations. When about 10 years of age, Miss Ruth joined the Presbyterian Church of Corning and she was a conscientious Christian girl who friends were limited only by her acquaintance. It was ever her desire to live that her life might be a benefit to the world and that the world would be better for her having lived. After the death of her father, March 10, 1891, Miss Ruth took a great interest in the affairs of the house and assisted her mother in many ways, being very thoughtful of others until she passed away her desire was to make others happy. Miss Ruth was taken sick with scarlet fever February 22, 1909, and when she was just getting about from the attack, she was taken with catarrh of the stomach and bowels and was never well afterward. She was about the house in an invalid chair, until Saturday afternoon of last week, when she was suddenly taken with a sinking spell and the end came as above states on Sunday. Besides her mother, Miss Ruth leaves two sisters, Helen and Elizabeth and a host of friends to mourn her departure. Funeral services were held at the home this morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. S. F. Gutelius, pastor of the Presbyterian church and interment was made in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The boys of the graduating classes acted as pall bearers.
